Art Thoughts with Judith Reidy Blog

Hi Folks,
Please note:
If you plan on attending our field trip to the Chicago Art Institute on Saturday, March 29th, you will need to email Judith, and copy me.
This is the only way that we can track accurately, who is going, when they signed on and how many are attending.
If you tell someone by word of mouth that doesn’t count. This verification needs to be in an email to Judith (copy me).
Remember, if you attend the class on Thursday, March 27th (the class just before the trip), there is no class fee for the field trip to the Art Institute. All you will need to pay for is your ticket, your meals and drinks, and help us all split the costs to the driver.
At this time, assuming we fill “Liberty One” the estimate of the costs to the driver is approximately $18.-. per person (this includes the parking costs, gas, and museum ticket). I estimated the parking costs higher than they probably will be, so it’ll probably be less. And if anyone has an extra museum ticket as a member of the Institute we’ll give that ticket to the driver, which will make our transportation costs even lower.
Yours in paint,
Lorin

Hi Folks,
I would like to take this opportunity to put a shout out; “Hey, Thank you!” to Debra Patterson, and Bill Ward.
Last night, fueled by Taco’s and beverages the three of us went at the WPS studio space with a vengeance and CLEANED! Yes, tonight you will be walking into a practically new studio that actually smells like Pine-sol. You might walk in and turn around and start to walk outside again, thinking that you walked into the wrong place. ;-)
Anyway, enjoy, and see you soon!

Lorin

Hi Folks,
We have our first driver!
Sue Schwegal has graciously volunteered to be Driver number 1 as our chauffer into the urban modernity of Chicago town on Saturday, March 29th. I will be her co-pilot and shotgun toter. If we have more than 7 people who want to join us on this trip, we will need another driver. As stated earlier, costs for parking, gas, museum ticket and tolls will be split equally among all of us non-drivers, to go to the driver/owner of the hauling vehicle. At this time there is room for 5 more people in our vehicle. If more participate we will need someone else to step up. To give you an idea, Sue and I calculated the costs and those 6 passengers in our vehicle will be paying approximately $20. each for transportation in the “liberty” van, now christened; “Liberty One”. Now that’s a pretty darn good deal, I’d say. If more than 5 more people sign on, and someone else is needed to drive, we will split the costs between both drivers equally among all of the non-drivers. If you bring a quest, I would ask that you pay for that person as well, as they are taking a student’s spot.
Wagons Ho!!!!!
Yours in the painted “Liberty One”. J
Lorin
Hi Folks,
I was just wondering how your assignments were coming along. I would like to set a due date for Thursday, March 13th to review the finished projects. I know that all of you aren’t participating in this one, so don’t panic if you are not aware of what I am referring to. If you missed some classes lately, you might have missed this. It’s ok, there’s always more projects on the way to learn from.
For those who are participating, here is the refresher:
Complete a finished painting (completely finished, ready to frame) in the color you randomly picked (there were six in all…..yellow, orange, red, violet, blue, green) along with white, and black. No pure whites, or pure blacks should appear in the final work. Your whites, and blacks and greys should have some element of your chosen color in them. For those of you familiar with photography, you will remember duotones. The final work will appear something like that. Remember, this is not meant to be an underpainting; it is meant to be the completed work.
Any subject matter is fine although you might want to consider the color you selected in relation to the mood or subject matter of your work. Also, remember that none of these should be larger than 16” x 20”.
I look forward to seeing these and discussing them with you on Thursday, March 13th.
I think you’ll be intrigued when you see the results when viewing these together in a grouping. J
Yours in paint,
Lorin
